Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said increased early voting will become the Republican Party's “norm going forward” following President-elect Trump's victory in the 2024 US presidential election. He said it should happen.
“This was so important that President Trump spoke out about it. I mean, there's no one better than President Trump to get voters to change their habits and believe in it,” McDaniel said. He spoke during an appearance on NewsNation's “The Hill” on Wednesday.
“RNC, I was there earlier this year,” she said. “We have launched a ‘Bank the Vote’ initiative in every state. We were going to a county party. We were creating Captains to 'Bank the Vote,''' he added, referring to a program the committee launched in 2023 to encourage Republican voters to vote early.
“This is certainly something that needs some education, but it wouldn't have happened if the people at the top didn't say so,” said McDaniel, who resigned from the RNC in March. “This has to be the norm going forward. We can do that.” Don't expect everything to be available on Election Day. ”
Trump has mixed feelings about early voting, and although he previously criticized it, he recently changed his stance on the issue. This year's election broke early voting records in some battleground states. More than 82 million people voted early before Election Day.
McDaniel has clashed with his party over how to vote in 2022, suggesting Republicans stop encouraging early voting and instead vote by mail.
“Our voters need to vote early,” McDaniel said at the end of 2022. In 2020, many people said, “Don't vote by mail, don't vote early.'' And we have to stop that and understand that even if it takes Democrats a month to collect the ballots, we can't expect them to get it all done in one day. ”
