The Red River Boundary Commission has redrawn the border between Texas and Oklahoma to ensure safe water for more than 2 million Texans, the Texas Land Commission announced.
This re-drawing will ensure that approximately 30% of the drinking water supply for the surrounding area will be secured and available.
“As Texas Land Commissioner, I am honored to work on behalf of all Texans and bring solutions to the table that will benefit our great state. , ensuring that millions of waters in North Texas come from safe sources in Texas,” Secretary Dawn Buckingham said.
“I am proud that the GLO surveying team has played a major role in solving this boundary problem by leveraging their cartographic skills and expertise. It was an integral part of it.”

“It has been determined that a pumping station providing drinking water to certain areas of North Texas was inadvertently constructed across the Texas-Oklahoma border,” the statement said.
“On October 30, 2024, the Red River Boundary Commission, comprised of commissions from Texas and Oklahoma, resolved the boundary issue and ensured that the pumping station is located entirely in Texas,” the statement said.
