President-elect Donald Trump's landslide electoral victory has galvanized the ambitions of a bold sports culture among longtime NFL fans.

In the days following President Trump's victory, scores of Washington Commanders fans took to social media to urge the organization to revert to the Redskins, the name the organization used from 1937 until its 2020 change. called out.

But now that President Trump is set to return to the White House, fans have expressed a desire to help restore the team's original brand. The wave of requests spread primarily on X, as fans posted about the topic and independent NFL news and rumor pages helped spread the requests.

One fan wrote, “Commander looks too much like communism.”

Another fan wrote, “Every time I hear a sports commentator say 'commander' I think DEI. It ruins the game.”

But skeptics point out that the franchise is a private entity and Trump, as president or president-elect, has no official authority over the team's branding or other decisions.

“The American education system has let many people down,” one skeptic wrote in response to a report of a fan request.
