Aaron Boone is back.
That assumption became official Friday when the Yankees announced they had exercised the manager's club option for 2025.
Boone will return for his eighth season after leading the Yankees to the World Series for the first time during his tenure, but the club lost to the Dodgers in five games.
“I am grateful for the trust placed in me to lead this team. This is both a responsibility and an opportunity that I do not take lightly,” Boone said in a statement. “It is an honor to come to work every day and be surrounded by so many determined and talented players, coaches and staff. There is a collective commitment to excellence within this organization, including the Steinbrenner family. It's built into everything we do. I'm already looking forward to attending Spring Training in Tampa and working tirelessly to get the Yankees back into the postseason and contend for a World Championship. ”
The Yankees went 603 wins, 429 losses (.584 batting average) under Boone, and led the group to the postseason in six of his seven seasons.
“Aaron is a steady presence in the clubhouse and has a deep ability to connect and foster relationships with our players,” GM Brian Cashman said. “Continually demonstrating these skills in such a demanding and pressured market is what makes him one of the best managers in the game. Our job is clearly done. However, we are excited to have Aaron return to lead the team as we pursue the ultimate prize in 2025.”
