Residents of the small Volusia County town of Pearson have been on the lookout for the bear since it entered its enclosure and escaped on October 17th. One woman even installed signs to warn motorists to watch out for kangaroos jumping over the road.

“Just when you think you've seen it all, the town of Pearson is buzzing tonight,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood wrote in an Oct. 17 X post.

Resident Tamara Dubarry was able to film the kangaroo on her mobile phone as it jumped through the woodland just before it was captured.

“At first when everyone was making such a fuss about it, I thought, 'This is a kangaroo.' For example, we've all been to the zoo, we've all seen one,” Dubarry said. told FOX 35. “But like actually seeing it up close, it's not something you see every day. It's cool.”
