1 killed, more than a dozen injured in shooting at Alabama’s Tuskegee University

One person was killed and 16 others injured in a mass shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama early Sunday morning.

Twelve people were injured in the shooting, and four others suffered injuries unrelated to the shooting, according to the Alabama Department of Law Enforcement. said in a statement.

The shooting began around 1:40 a.m., and one 18-year-old male, who was not a college student, was confirmed dead. No arrests have been made and authorities are asking for the public's help in this case.

The agency's National Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into the shooting and is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Submit a tip.

The shooting occurred as Tuskegee University, a historically black university, was celebrating its 100th Homecoming Week. Monday classes are canceled and grief counselors will be available to students. Associated Press Reported.

The victim's parents were notified and several of the injured were treated at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.

Police Chief Patrick Mardis said a female student was shot in the abdomen and a male student was shot in the arm, according to the Associated Press.
