Former Harris aide calls for Biden to resign so she can be president briefly

Jamal Simmons, a former aide to Vice President Harris, called for President Biden to resign so the vice president could serve in the role for a short period of time.

“Joe Biden has been a phenomenal president and he's made a lot of promises. There's one promise left that he can make as a transitional figure,” Simmons said on CNN's “State of the Union.” He spoke during a panel featuring anchor Dana Bash. highlighted clip Written by Mediaite.

“He could resign as president within the next 30 days and make Kamala Harris president of the United States,” he continued, drawing shocked reactions from others.

President Biden withdrew from this year's White House race in late July, amid growing concerns about his age and mental health following his disastrous debate against President-elect Trump a month ago. Harris then took the lead, but ultimately lost to Trump a few months later.

Simmons said Harris stepping into the boss's role will “certainly dominate the news at a time when Democrats need to learn drama and transparency and do what the people want.” .

Harris' loss to Trump and the loss of the Senate majority in the 2024 election has reeled Democrats, many of whom see the president-elect as a threat to democracy.

Infighting has also erupted within the Democratic Party after the election, with leftists claiming their party hasn't moved enough in their direction to galvanize the party's support base, while centrists say the party has moved leftward. They argue that this has frightened moderate voters. .

“We are oblivious to the crisis of meaning and purpose fueling MAGA,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said in a thread on social platform X on Sunday. “We refuse to make a big fight. Our tents are too small.”

Hill has contacted the White House, the Vice President's Office and the Democratic National Committee for comment.
