Offense found new way to be bad

Review of the Jets' 31-6 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.

offense

This unit has discovered a new bad thing. There was only one three-and-out. There was only one turnover. Still, it was a terrible performance, with no plays going beyond 15 yards and not reaching the end zone.

QB Aaron Rodgers (22-of-35, 151 yards, 1 fumble, 72.4 QB rating) seemed afraid of getting hit, completing just one pass over 10 yards through the air. Ta.

Davante Adams (13 targets, 6 catches, 31 yards) and Garrett Wilson (6 targets, 5 catches, 41 yards) were not involved in the game.

The Jets looked like a team without an answer, going 0-for-3 in the red zone.

defense

This was the Jets' worst defensive performance this season.

They couldn't tackle. They couldn't cover. They couldn't do anything right.

The Cardinals gained 406 total yards and had 28 first downs. QB Kyler Murray (22 of 24, 266 yards, 1 passing TD, 126.7 QB rating, 3 rushing, 21 yards, 2 rushing TDs) looked like he could do whatever he wanted.

The Cardinals had three touchdown drives of 70 yards and one of 88 yards. CB Sauce Gardner missed a big tackle, but he was just one of many Jets defenders grabbing the air.

special teams

Rookie kicker Spencer Schrader made the first two field goals of his career and looks to bring some stability to the Jets' position.

Thomas Morstead made only two punts in the game, one of which was inside the top 20.

There wasn't much of a return game, with both teams combining for eight touchbacks and just three punts.

coaching

The Jets spent all that extra rest and play resulting in a complete and utter misfire. This isn't just interim coach Jeff Ulbrich's fault. He didn't miss a tackle in that game. But he deserves a lot of the blame.

The Jets continue to look like a sloppy and unprepared team, and his defense was at the heart of it in this game. The Jets seemed to have no idea what the Cardinals were doing.

The Jets focused on stopping runs all week, and the Cardinals beat them by the pass. Todd Downing didn't have a bad game, but his three consecutive passes from the 3-yard line early in the third quarter were questionable.
