‘I Apologize To Absolutely Nobody’: Tony Hinchcliffe Doubles Down On ‘Island Of Garbage’ Joke At MSG Trump Rally

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe doubled down on a joke he made at President-elect Donald Trump's Oct. 27 Madison Square Garden rally in a YouTube video posted Monday.

Mr Hinchcliffe faced backlash after he sarcastically referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” at a rally. The next night, on his live comedy podcast,kill tony'' the comedian addressed the criticism, explaining the joke and insisting he had no qualms about what he said on set. “Guys, I gave a speech last night and I don't know if you heard about this. Believe it or not, it was a speech about free speech. I'm currently under attack. I'm in the news. I don't know if you guys know this, but I mentioned Puerto Rico in my free speech speech, and Puerto Rico is currently in a state of landfills where all the landfills are full. We have a problem,” Mr Hinchcliffe said. “Unfortunately, I think I'm the only one who knows this. That being said, what I want to say is…I love Puerto Ricans. They're very smart people. They’re smart, they’re street savvy, and they’re smart enough to know when they’re being used as political fodder.”

“And now it's happening. And I will never apologize to anyone: for Puerto Ricans, for white people, for black people, for Palestinians, for Jews. “And even to my own mother, who I made fun of during filming. No one clipped it. There were no headlines saying I was making fun of my own mother.” “Maybe that venue wasn't the best place to do this set at the time, but either way, to everyone trying to smear me in the mainstream media and online, that's my job. . I'm working hard, and that's never going to change.”

In response to Hinchcliffe's comments, President Joe Biden referred to the comedian's Puerto Rican joke on an Oct. 29 Zoom call with the group Voto Latino, describing Trump supporters as “trash.”

“And just the other day, a speaker [Trump’s] The rally called Puerto Rico a “floating island of trash.” Well, let me tell you something…I don't know any Puerto Ricans that I know, or any Puerto Ricans from my home state of Delaware, but they are good, decent, honorable people. ” said. “The only trash floating around is his supporters. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and un-American. That's what we've been doing, It goes completely against everything that has come before.”

Biden tried to clarify his statement with X. post Following criticism, he claimed he was referring to Hinchcliffe's “hateful rhetoric” and not all Trump supporters.

Despite Hinchcliffe's joke and the subsequent backlash, Trump secured a majority of the Hispanic male vote nationally over Vice President Kamala Harris. He also won a majority of votes in Starr County, Texas, which is 97% Hispanic and has voted Democratic since 1896. According to to the New York Post.
