DP World Tour releases 2025 schedule, includes multiple changes from 2024

If the last few years of the DP World Tour have told us anything, it's that the circuit formerly known as the European Tour is now a much more global tour.

As with 2024, the 2025 schedule emphasizes that idea, with tournaments being held on nearly every continent, with South America being an exception.

However, next year's DP World Tour schedule includes multiple changesincluding a return to Tourkier in Austria and Ireland's K Club, which hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup. South Africa's Nedbank Challenge is also back on the schedule, with Sun City's Gary Player Country Club hosting the event. However, addition also involves subtraction. The Porsche European Open, won by former LIV golfer Rory Kanter in June, is not on the schedule. Nor is the Andalusia Masters, which Frenchman Julien Guerrier won in a nine-hole playoff in October.

However, just like in 2024, the DP World Tour is organizing its schedule based on three distinct stages. There are five “global swings” during which the majority of the PGA Tour's schedule takes place in the United States. The first swing, the 'opening swing', begins on November 21st at the BMW Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane. The ISPS Handa Australian Open follows the following week. Three events, including two in South Africa, complete this first move and the calendar officially switches to 2025.

The 'International Swing' begins in January in the Middle East and is highlighted by the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Rory McIlroy will start the season by returning to Dubai to defend his title from a year ago. This part of the schedule features events in Bahrain, Kenya and South Africa and concludes on March 9th.

The “Asian Swing” begins with the Porsche Singapore Classic and continues. The Hero Indian Open and Volvo China Open will follow, followed by the Masters in April. Another event in Asia is scheduled for April 24-27, but has not yet been confirmed. No matter what events occur, this third part of the schedule ends.

The fourth swing, the 'European Swing', is filled with familiar stops from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. But it begins with a return to Turkiye, Antalya, where the best of the DP World Tour will compete at the Regnum Karya Golf & Spa Resort along the Mediterranean coast. Two other significant changes to the swing include the return of the Austrian Open, which will be held at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Gut Altentan Golf Club in Salzburg. The course hosted the Austrian Open from 1990 to 1992, and in 1990 Bernhard Langer defeated Lanny Wadkins in a playoff. Another new development involves the Italian Open moving from Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome to Argentario Golf Club on the outskirts of Tuscany. .

The Genesis Scottish Open marks the beginning of the final “closing swing” of the PGA Tour's three co-sanctioned events. The ISCO Championship will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, the same week, and the Barracuda Championship on the shores of Lake Tahoe will be held alongside golf's oldest major tournament. Following the opening at Royal Portrush, the DP World Tour will enter a three-week hiatus before two events in the Czech Republic and Denmark.

The crux of the DP World Tour calendar comes at the end of August when the PGA Tour concludes the FedEx Cup Playoffs. This is no coincidence, but a strategic move by DP World Tour executives. Their goal is to try to lure top talent back to Europe for the “Back 9”, which consists of nine tournaments including some of the most lucrative events.

The 'back nine' begins with the Betfred British Masters at Belfie, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo from August 21 to 24. The Omega European Masters is held every year on one of the world's most beautiful courses in Crans-sur-Sierre, Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

The Amegen Irish Open returns to the K Club ahead of the DP World Tour's flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship, in Wentworth, England. The FedEx French Open will be held the week before the Ryder Cup, but Le Golf National will not be held. Instead, another Paris-area course, the Golf de Saint Nome La Bretheche, will host the DP World Tour for the first time since 1982, when Seve Ballesteros won.

The Ryder Cup will be followed by four more events, including the famous Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in St. Andrews. The Spanish Open will also return to Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, while the Genesis Championship will once again be held in South Korea to round out the 'back nine'. However, the DP World Tour remains open for a weekend in October. 16th-19th—for event announcements. Last year, the Andalusia Masters was held. It remains to be seen whether this event in southern Spain will return to this slot.

The final two events of the DP World Tour season will take place again in the Middle East in November. The top 70 in the Race to Dubai standings will qualify for the first DP World Tour Playoffs event, the Abu Dhabi Championship. From there, the top 50 players will advance to Dubai to compete in the DP World Tour Championship, which will be held from November 13th to 16th, 2025.
