Jon Moxley doesn't seem to be trying to get fans excited or leave any intrigue surrounding Shane McMahon potentially joining AEW.
In a recent Zoom interview, the Post asked if McMahon would be welcome if he was willing to do things the right way and work for Moxley in the newly reset AEW, and the reigning world champion dismissed the idea.
“It doesn't really matter what I think,” Moxley said. “Maybe we should talk about Santa Claus coming into AEW. There's zero chance, I don't mean it's impossible, it's cool, but it seems like zero chance.”
Moxley's comments are worth noting. Many fans believe that if McMahon were to join, he would be involved in the four-time AEW World Champion's current storyline, being the one pulling the strings behind his new Death Rider faction, the company's roughnecks. This is because I believe that there will be potential involvement in this matter.
The idea that McMahon, 56, has any ties to AEW (a current competitor with WWE, his father Vince McMahon's former company) was sparked in June by famed pro wrestling podcast host and Ric Flair. It started as a rumor after being told by his son-in-law, Conrad Thompson. On the Grill JR show, Shane McMahon “reached out to wrestlers on the AEW roster to discuss the idea of working with AEW, at least hypothetically.” company.
Then, in late July, photos of Shane McMahon and AEW Chairman Tony Khan were leaked online. The two met in Arlington, Texas, where a running show between AEW and Ring of Honor took place at the city's Esports Stadium.
Khan and Shane McMahon, who is reportedly not currently under contract with WWE, discussed “possible future opportunities.” According to Fightful at that time.
McMahon last appeared on a WWE show at WrestleMania 39 in 2023, but McMahon immediately released a statement to Busted Open Radio about the meeting.
“Tony and I connected through mutual friends and had a great meeting,” McMahon said in a statement. “We talked about a lot of things, but mainly about our mutual love for the business and the rewards and challenges of working with a family. I look forward to seeing how the business evolves.”
Khan shed further light on the talks in August. Appearing on “The Dan Labatard Show” He said the incident happened at the airport and that “someone came in as if on a cell phone” and took pictures.

“It's not top secret,” Khan said. “I wanted to have a nice conversation with him. I've heard a lot of good things about him. We have a lot of mutual friends. We were both in Dallas and we said, 'Let's meet.' So we met at the airport and had a nice talk. I found him to be a very polite and respectful person, and a really fun person to talk to. ”
Khan wasn't the only AEW executive that Shane McMahon was photographed with. In September, executive vice presidents Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, also known as The Young Bucks, posted a photo of Matthew and McMahon together at an airport with the caption, “Interesting flight today.”
However, that may be the status quo for now after wrestling reporter Niko Ekstra posted the following for AEW earlier this month: Negotiations with Shane McMahon have “fallen through the cracks”.
If Moxley's statement is true, the idea of Shane McMahon in AEW may never come to fruition.
