Social media was abuzz on Tuesday after first lady Jill Biden, a former Democratic presidential candidate, gave Vice President Kamala Harris a cold reception.
Ms. Harris and the second gentleman, Douglas Emhoff, approached the row of seats from the first lady's right as the vice president greeted and shook hands with everyone except Mr. Biden.

As Harris took her seat, Biden appeared to be staring straight ahead through dark sunglasses.

Journalist Andy Go shared a close-up shot of the first lady with her second family and described Biden as “stone-faced”[d]'', Harris' supporters said in part, blaming President Biden for the candidate's defeat last Tuesday.
The exchange, or lack thereof, also attracted international media attention after Italian television journalist Leonardo Panetta wrote in Italian on the X show that Harris had been “ignored” by Biden after her loss.

“Jill Biden…didn't stand up and say hello to her, didn't even look at her, just sat next to the vice president with her sunglasses on,” Panetta said. “The climate in America is nice.”
“They don't take the loss very well,” said right-wing commentator Benny Arthur Johnson.

One user responded to Rubin, saying, “I hate both of you for letting the two of you sit together.”
Conservative writer David Harris Jr. suggested that there appears to be a “rift” within the party following Harris' landslide loss to President-elect Donald Trump.
The first and second families had come to the Virginia cemetery to watch the president lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in honor of Veterans Day.

During the campaign, the first lady campaigned for Harris and talked about how the two bonded over the loss of close family members to cancer and other causes.
On Wednesday, the first lady will travel to her hometown of Philadelphia to speak at a gala for Philadelphia 250, an organization preparing to celebrate America's 550th anniversary next year.
