A FEMA hurricane relief supervisor accused of ordering workers to skip the home of a Trump supporter has issued a statement of defense and is considering legal action.
Marni Washington was fired from the Federal Emergency Management Agency after she reportedly told relief workers in Lake Placid, Florida, to avoid a house with a sign supporting President-elect Donald Trump.
“When we got there, we were told to discriminate against people. It's almost unbelievable that someone in the federal government would think that was okay.” said One of the Daily Wire workers.
“The only political hostility my team encountered was because they happened to be holding Trump campaign signs.”
Washington has publicly accused FEMA of lying about the incident and claiming to be a scapegoat for broader practices.
“I have information that proves FEMA is lying,” the 38-year-old told the Daily Mail.
“FEMA preaches avoidance first and then de-escalation. This is not an isolated thing. This is a huge event of avoidance,” Washington said on the podcast. “It's not just Florida, it's avoidable in the Carolinas.”
Washington said the avoidance doctrine was a response to the hostility of some residents who oppose FEMA.
“If you look at the record, there's what we call a community trend. … The political hostility that my team encountered was just because they happened to be holding Trump campaign signs,” she said.
“For example, if we are on Mary Street and we are not aware of it and we are greeted with unwelcome weapons or people come out firing guns and screaming at us, then we should avoid that street completely.” she added.
She claimed that she did not even vote in the election because she was busy with relief efforts.
“Not all Floridians are offended, but most Floridians are very vocal about their disdain for FEMA. They express it casually,” Washington said. Ta.
She said Biden and Harris supporters have participated in other relief missions where they expressed hostility toward FEMA and used similar de-escalation techniques against them.
At one point during hurricane relief efforts, FEMA suspended operations following reports that armed militia members were “hunting” FEMA employees over rumors of land seizures spreading on social media. Police arrested a man on suspicion of threatening to shoot an employee.
FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell said Washington's actions “clearly violate FEMA's core values and principles of helping people regardless of their political affiliation.”
