Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at a Texas port of entry on Sunday seized $31,169,000 worth of methamphetamine hidden inside a package of chili peppers.
The discovery was made by CBP Field Operations Directorate personnel at the Fahr International Bridge, Texas, the agency reported Tuesday.

On Sunday, a tractor-trailer traveling from Mexico attempted to enter the United States through the Farr International Bridge cargo facility.
The vehicle was selected for inspection, which included the use of non-invasive testing equipment, and it was at that time that CBP officers discovered the drugs.
Officers found 1,859 packages of suspected methamphetamine hidden inside Serrano Pepper's luggage. The drugs weighed 2,155.02 pounds, the agency said.

“Our CBP officers remain vigilant and are interdicting this large shipment of methamphetamine and preventing it from reaching America's streets,” said Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director of the Hidalgo/Farr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. said.

The drugs and vehicle were seized by the Office of Field Operations, and a criminal investigation was initiated by special agents with Homeland Security Investigations.
