Hochul to relaunch controversial NYC congestion pricing: sources

Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to announce a plan Thursday to reinstate congestion pricing at a base rate of $9, the paper reported.

Congestion toll revisions in Hochul confirmed by multiple sources will lower the $15 toll for cars into Lower Manhattan, which was originally scheduled to begin in June, before the governor placed it on an indefinite “suspension.” It was planned.

The governor's office had considered a lower toll of $7, but officials said that would trigger a lengthy environmental review.

“They felt $9 was the destination,” one person said.

According to people familiar with the matter, Hochul is considering raising the basic fee within the first three years.

That movement, First reported by GothamistSupporters of the controversial program told Hochul before Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president in January, having promised to “abolish” congestion pricing in his first week in office. The announcement came after strong calls for the program to be reinstated.
