Vivek Ramaswami, who joined tech billionaire Elon Musk as head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in President-elect Trump's administration, discussed plans for the agency on Wednesday.
“We want to burn down the bureaucracy to help the American people, to stimulate the economy, to restore self-government again,” Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, told Fox News' Sean Hannity. “There is,” he said.
“The people we elect to run our government aren't even the ones running our government anymore. It's unelected bureaucrats.” he added.
On Tuesday, President Trump announced the nomination of Musk and Ramaswamy to head DOGE. DOGE aims to “reduce excessive regulation and reduce wasteful spending” and reorganize federal agencies.
DOGE will “provide advice and guidance from outside the government” and work with the White House Office of Management and Budget, the president-elect said.
“This could potentially become a modern-day 'Manhattan Project,'” Trump added. “Republican politicians have long dreamed of DOGE goals.”
Prime Minister Ramaswamy said on Wednesday that he believes the “root cause of our failure as a country” lies in the government's “unelected” bureaucracy.
“And I think they view elected officials as cute little puppets that come and go from time to time,” he continued. “No more. There's a new sheriff in town. Donald Trump is president.”
Musk said in a statement that the department “sends shockwaves through the system and everyone involved in government waste – many people.”
Trump and Musk became close when Musk supported Trump after the former president's assassination attempt in July and when the former president ran for the White House this year.
“Tonight, the American people gave @realDonaldTrump a clear mandate for change,” Musk wrote on his blog. Social platform Early morning the day after election day.
