Asked about the selection, Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) called it a masterful chess move by President Trump.

“We all know what's going to happen on the Democratic side,” Fetterman said. “We're going to get some interesting answers from our Republican colleagues who are voting or trying to justify voting against this mess.”

Gaetz resigned from the House shortly after President Trump's announcement that he would not release a House Ethics Committee report related to allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use involving the former congressman. The decision was reportedly taken ahead of Friday's vote on the matter.
The Florida Republican's resignation will end the investigation that began in April 2021, but the House Ethics Committee could vote to release the report.
