President-elect Donald Trump announced Friday that longtime communications veteran Stephen Chan will return to the White House as communications director.

Mr. Chan was appointed presidential assistant and director of communications. During President Trump's first term, Chan served as director of strategic response.

As part of the same appointment, the Trump campaign announced that ally Sergio Gol will also serve as chief of staff and director of presidential personnel.

“Steven Chan and Sergio Go have been trusted advisors since my first presidential election in 2016, and have worked tirelessly to guide me through my first term and to my historic victory in 2024,” President Trump said in a statement. “We have always defended America First principles.” “I'm thrilled to welcome them to my White House, just as we 'Make America Great Again!' ”

However, the position of White House communications director is separate from that of White House press secretary, although some people have held both positions at the same time in the past.

Meanwhile, President Trump has not announced any changes to his press secretary.

He currently holds a position that saw turnover when Trump first entered the White House. During that term, six different people held the title for seven different terms. None lasted more than a year.

Anthony Scaramucci famously served in office for just 11 days during President Trump's first term. Both he and Stephanie Grisham, the other White House communications director, have since parted ways with their former boss.

Additionally, before working on Trump's first campaign, Chan served as a spokesperson for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The UFC and Trump are known to have strong ties. Trump has been ringside at several fights, and UFC president Dana White has been an outspoken supporter of the president-elect, speaking at the Republican National Convention (RNC) this summer.
