The groups received a total of about $1.35 billion in 2023 alone, according to tax filings, and the six foundations collectively sent nearly $1.5 billion in grants to other organizations in the same year.

This setting allows financially sponsored groups to avoid filing tax forms with the IRS. The six funds also shift large sums of money to progressive groups outside of their network.

The latest spending includes hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for internal governance efforts, which will help the network cover operating costs such as salaries, plus $1 billion to support various liberal causes. This means that they have spent well in excess of that amount.
