Klobuchar: Gaetz is an ‘absurd’ choice for attorney general

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said on CNN on Friday that it would be “irrational” for President-elect Trump to choose former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) to be his attorney general.

“This is an absurd choice given that he was ostensibly under investigation by the House Ethics Committee and resigned just before the report was released on all charges of sex trafficking and illegal drug use. But a number of House members on both sides of the aisle have information about this,” Senate Rules Committee Chairwoman Klobuchar told CNN's Jake Tapper.

“That's why I'm not surprised that the senator likes the senator.” [Kevin] “Mr. Kramer, a conservative from North Dakota, said his nomination is a very likely possibility,” she said. “You have Sen. [John] Cornyn, who is a well-respected member of the Judiciary Committee, said we have to see this report, we want to see this report, so our group asked for this report, and unfortunately… , the Speaker doesn't seem to think so. I don't want this report to be made public. ”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) asked the Ethics Committee on Friday not to release the report, after previously saying he would not get involved in the matter.

But Klobuchar said the contents of the report will be clarified, even if it has to be redone.

“I think this is unreasonable because this report has to be redone,” she explained. “To investigate all the various allegations regarding highly sensitive positions, we would have to rewrite the report and utilize the FBI. Overseeing 115,000 law enforcement, FBI agents, and prosecutors.

“There is no more important position in the U.S. government when it comes to public safety.”
