In Tapachula, Chiapas, hundreds of migrants line up every day outside the field office of the National Migration Institute (INM). There, they wait for their turn to submit documents for agents to obtain travel permits that allow them to move freely within Mexico for a set period of time.
As seen on various posters and banners, immigrants must obtain a pre-confirmed CBP One appointment and present identification.

Long lines and waiting times have forced thousands of migrants to join one of the various caravans that make their way through southern Mexico to Mexico City. From there, it is hoped to find multiple means of transportation to the northern border. As reported by Breitbart Texas, contrary to US reports, the caravan has not disbanded and continues to travel across the United States.
The migrants aim to enter the United States before President Donald J. Trump takes office. Officials expressed concern that the new administration would end the current process by which most people are expected to apply for asylum.

An INM official who spoke to Breitbart Texas said officials are unable to stop the caravan because most of the migrants have permits. The agency and Mexican local authorities are tracking the caravan and directing traffic to avoid impacting local residents in southern Mexico.
