Mike Huckabee (R), a former governor of Arkansas and the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to Israel, praised President-elect Trump's selection of Pete Hegseth to lead the Department of Defense.
“I think he's going to be just as disruptive, but that needs to happen at the Pentagon. They're so focused on awakening and diversity that no one wants to join them,” Huckabee said. He spoke on NewsMax on Friday.rob schmidt tonight. ”
He said the Fox News host and Army National Guard officer could raise hiring standards that are at record lows, which Huckabee blamed on recent diversity and inclusion efforts.
Mr. Huckabee likened their attempt to increase enrollment to a “social experiment” that Mr. Hegseth could help end.
“The military has always been a meritocracy. This was never a social experiment,” the Republican said.
“So if Pete Hegseth steps in and gets rid of some people who got the job politically and not because of their military ability, God bless him, good for him. ”
However, some members of Congress have questioned Hegseth's selection due to the military leadership's lack of experience and the sexual assault allegations that have surfaced.
Others have joined Mr. Huckabee in praising Mr. Trump's choice in hopes of restoring a force of “woke” generals.
“I'm very excited about the appointments so far, because every appointment has been pretty disruptive. They're not just people to oil a machine that's already running,” Huckabee said, adding that Matt -Referenced Congressman Gaetz (Republican, Florida)'s election as attorney general.
“They want to come in and make some serious, positive changes so that these institutions don't work for someone's leftist agenda, they work for good, they work for the American people. Start working.”
