Chilling new report reveals just how rife antisemitism is at US colleges, including in NYC

A staggering 72% of American Jewish college students feel “unwelcome” on campus, and more than half have been victims of anti-Semitism, a damning new report has found.

The civil rights group Stop Antisemitism has issued a “report” on how more than 20 college campuses have tackled hatred against Jews, and five other campuses the group previously evaluated Re-evaluated.

Two New York City schools, Cornell University and The New School, were given embarrassing “F” grades, the group said.

Among the group's other findings, Jewish students on campuses surveyed revealed:

  • 72% feel unwelcome in certain spaces on campus simply because they are Jewish.
  • 52% were personally victims of anti-Semitism at school;
  • In the wake of the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023, 67% feel their universities are not doing enough to protect Jewish students.
  • Forty-three percent hide their Jewish identity from their classmates out of fear, and the same percentage said they would not recommend their school to a fellow Jewish student.
  • 43% did not feel safe enough to report anti-Semitism against them. Of those who actually reported Shockingly, 87% believe the school did not properly investigate the crime.
  • 69% said Israel's actions were condemned by Palestinian supporters.

Another group, the Alumni Association for Campus Fairness, reported similar findings on anti-Semitism in August.

“Universities are failing Jewish students, often leaving them vulnerable and unsupported,” the Stop Antisemitism report said.

The group said it was forced to triple its size just to deal with the recent flood of complaints about hatred against Jews. Since the Israeli genocide, the group has described a “staggering” 3,000% increase in anti-Semitic tips and submissions.

“Jewish students and professors are being ambushed, harassed, stalked, and physically assaulted. They openly demanded their death while shouting slogans,” the report said.

“These institutions enabled privileged mobs to carry out the most heinous hate crimes witnessed on American soil since the civil rights era, targeting Jews with impunity.”

Cornell University and the New School in the Big Apple failed to be investigated, while Columbia University in Manhattan, a hotbed of hate, was not evaluated this time because the organization rotates schools it inspects each year.

But in 2022, Colombia, the infamous site of some of the country's most violent anti-Semitic protests, failed.

This year, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brown University, Emerson College, University of Oregon, University of California, Davis, and University of Washington joined the group's Hall of Shame, earning an “F” grade.

“Each year, we evaluate 25 new schools, and unfortunately the results are consistent. Institutions like Columbia, and many Ivy League and Ivy-adjacent schools, are It continues to fail students,” said Liora Rez, founder of Stop Antisemitism.

“Administrations across the country have made no meaningful effort to ensure that Jewish students feel safe expressing their identities. This is not an isolated issue. It is a systemic failure of leadership.”

Cornell University received a failing grade for multiple anti-Semitic incidents, including student Patrick Dye threatening to shoot and kill a Jewish student and attack a kosher cafeteria on campus, while history professor Russell Rickford He expressed “excitement” over the October 7 attack by Hamas terrorists.

In May, six students were suspended from school after an 18-day illegal encampment.

“Anti-Zionist protests have disrupted much of campus life,” the report said of Cornell University.

Stop Anti-Semitism researchers said brass at the New School University in Greenwich Village refused to participate, but students did.

“75% of students have experienced anti-Semitism and…95% of students feel unwelcome in many spaces on campus.…83% of students would not recommend their school “I think so,” the report says.

“Notable Incident: Anti-Israel demonstrators and New School faculty occupy building in protest.”

Three universities received “A” grades for being more supportive of Jewish students: Baylor University, Clemson University, and Elon University.

Hofstra University on Long Island received a “C” grade, while Vassar College and Stanford University north of Poughkeepsie received “D” grades.
