John Stirling has some words of wisdom for his successors.
As the Post first reported last week, Dave Sims will replace the legendary Sterling on Yankees radio broadcasts on WFAN next season.
Sterling appeared on the digital baseball show “Foul Territory” on Monday and was asked if he had any advice for Sims.
“Dave and I have been friends since the '70s when he was writing for the Daily News and I was broadcasting the New Jersey Nets in Piscataway. [Waldman] Good friends – very good friends. ” Sterling said.
“So they'll be totally fine. And I don't give advice. I broadcast like I broadcast by the seat of my pants. I live my life that way too. By the seat of my pants. I would say to Dave Sims, or anyone else doing that job, just be yourself. If you sell yourself on the air, people will listen.”
Sims, 71, most recently served as the Mariners' television play-by-play announcer since 2007.
He previously worked at WNBC in New York and hosted a sports talk show with Ed Coleman on WFAN.

“It's great to be back home,” Sims said in a statement via WFAN. “I'm so honored to be a part of the iconic Yankees franchise. New York is where it all started for me and I can't wait for Opening Day and working with my best friend Soojin! ”
Sterling, 86, has been calling Yankees games on the radio since 1989.
He retired early last season but returned to the booth for the Bombers' playoff run.
Sterling also told Foul Territory: Open to hosting weekly talk show.
“After retiring, [Audacy New York boss] Chris Oliviero said, “Since your fans haven't had a chance to say goodbye to you, why don't you do a talk show on Saturday or Sunday?” and explained that Sterling has been doing talk shows since the 1960s.
“One talk show a week is my speed.”
Sterling also said he is willing to attend the occasional Yankees home game, but no longer flies anywhere.
