On the night of October 6, a neighbor “directly across the street” witnessed Brad and Suzanne loudly arguing and “physically struggling” in their front yard. Neighbors observed “Mr. Simpson trying to pull his wife down as she tried to get out of his grasp,” and that Brad chased and tried to grab his wife, according to the documents.
Neighbors then heard screams coming from the woods across from their home.

The Simpsons' 5-year-old child told a school counselor that on the night of Oct. 6, Brad Simpson, 53, “pushed his mother against a wall, (physically) punched her in the face, and hit her with his elbow.” “I hurt him,” he said. “There was a fight going on inside the residence, so I turned off the mother's phone.”
A few months earlier, Suzanne Simpson had told a personal bank representative that her husband was physically abusing her, that his cell phone was taken away frequently, and that “if she went missing, we would look for her in the lake.'' Documents reveal that he said, .
