The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday that Hezbollah fired rockets that attacked United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. It happened not once, but twice on the same day.
In its first statement, the IDF said:
Earlier today (Tuesday), reports came in of an attack on a UNIFIL post in Ramieh region in southern Lebanon, resulting in numerous injuries and damage to the post.
An IDF investigation determined that Hezbollah fired a rocket that hit a UNIFIL post.
The rocket was fired from the Deir Ahmes area and was one of many fired by Hezbollah in a barrage of fire towards Israel at 9:50 this morning.
The IDF later added in a second statement:
At 13:30 today (Tuesday), Hezbollah fired a number of rockets that landed and damaged a UNIFIL camp in Chamaa district in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah fired rockets from the Malie area in southern Lebanon.
This is the second time today that Hezbollah fired and hit a UNIFIL post. At 9:50 a.m. this morning (Tuesday), Hezbollah fired a rocket that landed at a UNIFIL camp in Ramiyeh district, southern Lebanon.
UNIFIL is supposed to disarm Hezbollah and move it away from the border with Israel, but has failed to do so.
UNIFIL found itself in the firing line many times during the ongoing war. While Israel seeks to avoid endangering UNIFIL strongholds, Hezbollah deliberately operates near those strongholds.
era of israel reported Argentina, one of the 48 countries contributing troops to UNIFIIL, is reportedly withdrawing its troops for its own security.
