Todd McShay criticized Jets owner Woody Johnson on Tuesday after Gang Green fired general manager Joe Douglas.
The host of “The McShay Show” labeled Johnson “one of the worst owners in the National Football League” and claimed that Douglas was “okay” but “the Jets are not.”
“The Jets can't win unless they win with Joe Douglas as general manager and the talent they have on their roster. It's an ownership issue, folks,” McShay said. “There are some decisions that have just been made where it doesn't matter what the general manager wants. One person pays the checks, one person oversees the whole thing, so there are certain decisions that have to be agreed upon. The decision has been made.
“If you're a Jets fan, you know exactly what I'm saying. This isn't new to you. I feel bad for Jets fans, because things don't work out in this system. Because if not, even with that talent on the field, I don't see much of a future. So, how are you going to overcome this? Probably. Probably not.”
McShay isn't the first to suggest that Johnson bears significant responsibility for how the Jets' season plays out.
Douglas is the Jets' newest addition to the team after firing head coach Robert Saleh on Oct. 8.
Sources told The Post's Brian Costello that Johnson made the decision to fire Douglas after the Jets' loss to the Colts on Sunday.
The Jets enter the 2024 season with the goal of making a Super Bowl appearance, but are looking at missing the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season.
