‘Morning Joe’ contributor worries about losing relevance as Americans tune out cable

“Morning Joe” contributor Mike Barnicle says more and more Americans are no longer getting their daily news from channels like MSNBC, but are instead getting their news from social media platforms. I lamented.

MSNBC has seen viewership decline since President-elect Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris. Since Election Day, the Liberal Network has experienced Viewership is the lowest in nearly a decade and has fallen nearly 40% since election season.

MSNBC has seen a significant decline in viewership, but these declines are not unique to cable news stations.

“We meet news consumers because they're not here, and that's the problem.”

Pew Research Center reported One in five Americans say they get their news from social media influencers. More people who influence the news identify as Republicans or conservatives (27%) than Democrats or liberals (21%).

“Mike, that's the challenge. You grew up in newsrooms. … So the challenge for a lot of mainstream media sources is whether they can make themselves relevant again.” says host Joe Scarborough. said on tuesday. “Twenty percent of adults actually get influencers on social media. Maybe someone makes a basket, and while they're making the basket, they look up and say, 'Vote for candidate X.' I don’t know.”

“You can't compete with a 20-second snippet on your iPhone. Just like you can walk down the street and get a digest of the entire day's news on your phone in less than a minute, how can you make it relevant again? I don't know, I'm walking through a crowd with a cup of coffee in one hand and a cell phone in the other, and I don't know how I'm going to keep up with that,'' Barnicle replied.

MSNBC analyst Eugene Robinson suggested the channel start producing its own 20-second videos to reach a wider audience. “we [should] “We can't meet news consumers everywhere because news consumers aren't here, and that's the problem,” he said.

The Pew Research study found yet another reason why influencers succeed in markets where mainstream media support is very low. 77% of news influencers have no affiliation or background with a news organization.

The rise of independent media during the election and President Trump's appearance on those platforms helped the Republican win the presidency by appealing to young male voters and persuading them to vote on Election Day. It is thought that.
