TSA administrator says he'd like to stay on under Trump

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator David Pekoske said earlier this week that he hopes to continue serving under President-elect Trump.

CBS' Tony Dokoupil asked Pekoske if he plans to remain in the job when President Trump returns to the White House.

“Yes, I would like to stay,” he said in an interview on “CBS Mornings” on Tuesday.

“I love this role, and I think it is important for the continuity of TSA that we complete the second term,” Pekosuke continued.

He was first confirmed by unanimous consent in 2017, during President Trump's first term. In September 2022, the Senate reaffirmed him for a second five-year term by a vote of 77-18.

“We are making a lot of improvements at TSA,” Pekoske said Tuesday. “We have invested heavily in technology, invested heavily in our people, and we have great partners with all the ground transportation systems, including airports, airlines, gas pipelines and rail systems.”

Mr. Trump's comments after Election Day, when he declared victory over Vice President Harris, suggested he was seeking fundamental changes to the federal government. In comments the day after the victory, he said, “We're going to fix everything about this country.”

So far, his Cabinet and key leadership nominations have differed significantly from those of the first administration and President Biden.

Elon Musk, the tech billionaire who has emerged as a staunch Trump ally, echoed the president-elect's comments in a post on social platform “I have given them a clear mission to pursue.”

Last week, President Trump announced that he and Musk will be heading a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to “reduce excessive regulation and cut wasteful spending” and reorganize federal agencies. announced Mr. Vivek Ramaswamy of the house.

DOGE will “provide advice and guidance from outside the government” and work with the White House Office of Management and Budget, the president-elect said.

The Hill has reached out to Trump's transition team for comment.
