76ers still favored to make postseason despite 2-12 start

It's been a nightmare start to the season for the 76ers.

Philadelphia, hit by injuries and drama, is 2-12, the worst record in the NBA.

Only 14 games into the season, the monthly difference is already three and a half games. 10th seed in the Eastern Conference.

But despite all the trouble early in the 2024-25 season, oddsmakers still expect the 76ers to make the postseason.

The Sixers are currently -215 at FanDuel Sportsbook to make the East playoffs, giving them the eighth-best odds in the conference.

Fortunately for Joel Embiid and others, the East has been terrible so far this season.

Only four teams have winning records: the Cavaliers, Celtics, Knicks, and Magic, and only the former two teams have winning percentages over .600 in the conference.

In contrast, the West has 11 teams above .500 heading into Thursday's game.

The 76ers entered the season with very high expectations after signing nine-time All-Star Paul George in free agency as the next pairing to join Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

Philadelphia was nearly considered a top-five NBA title contender until things started to fall apart just before the season opener in October.

Embiid missed the first nine games of the season due to a lingering knee injury.

On November 2nd, the star big man shoved Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes in the locker room after a game and was subsequently suspended for three games by the NBA.

Paul George has also been in and out, re-injuring his hyperextended knee in Wednesday night's loss to the Grizzlies.

After Monday's loss, Maxey accused Embiid of being late for “everything” at a team meeting in the midst of the season.
