Brock Purdy’s status uncertain for huge 49ers-Packers game

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been battling a shoulder injury this week and was limited in practice Thursday.

Purdy started pitching in practice but stopped after just a few minutes to get guidance from a trainer, and then his scheduled media appearances were postponed until Friday.

“He still had his limits today,” 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR Thursday afternoon. “He didn't do much yesterday, but he tried a little harder today. He went out and practiced a little bit and then came back about halfway and rested. Hopefully he'll feel great Sunday.”

Bay Area News Group 49ers beat reporter Cam Inman said after investigating the scene: Labeled Purdy Status. Regarding Sunday's game against the Packers, he said, “It's getting tougher and tougher.”

Veteran backups Brandon Allen and Josh Dobbs are behind Purdy on the 49ers' depth chart.

The 49ers fell to 5-5 last week with a loss to the division rival Seahawks, but are one loss away from reaching the preseason total.

Before Thursday's practice, NFL Media's Tom Pelissero was confident Purdy would play Sunday.

“From what I've heard, Brock Purdy should be okay for Sunday's game against the Packers.” Pelissero told “The Rich Eisen Show” guest host Mike Hill.. “He has a sore shoulder. I know he took a dive, I don’t know if that was a play, but he may have taken a dive towards the pylon in the game last week and landed a little bit. However, it was not a serious injury.

Star pass rusher Nick Bosa and left tackle Trent Williams also missed the 49ers' practice Thursday.

The Packers, at 7-3, are a three-point favorite over the 49ers, according to the latest odds from DraftKings.
