St. John’s appears to get screwed in clock controversy — and it was reviewable

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Jeremy Roach's game-winning 3-pointer for Baylor could have come after time expired had it started on time, and that could have been considered, the Big East said. sources told the Post.

St. John's forward Zuby Ejiofor made 2 of 2 free throws with 4.1 seconds left in the 22nd-ranked Johnnys' 99-98 overtime loss to 13th-ranked Baylor, according to television replays. It showed that he was off track and did not start on time. Baha Mar Hoop Championship.

Although initially deflected by St. John's RJ Lewis, the clock didn't start until shortly after Baylor had possession, giving Roach enough time to hit a rainbow 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Officials reviewed the play, but only to see if Roach took the shot on time, not to see if the clock started properly.

Officials will review the entire play and use a stopwatch to determine whether the shot would have been better had the clock started when it should have started, potentially disallowing the basket, the official said. It is said that there is.

If the clock had started when Lewis got the ball, it's unclear whether Roach would have been able to take the shot before the horn sounded. He certainly would have needed to hurry more in that scenario.

Asked about the clock afterward, St. John's coach Rick Pitino said, “I don't know what to say. The referees didn't do a very good job tonight.”

Pitino was furious that Ejiofor was “iced” before making his two free throws.

Baylor coach Scott Drew thought Ejiofor may have hit his elbow when he fouled one of his players and asked for a review, which officials acknowledged.

“[The official] The coach said we got elbowed. [his player]we didn't do that,'' Pitino said. “It's been sunny all day. It's unethical. I don't like it, but that's not why we lost.”
