Saquon Barkley is rooting for former Giants teammate Daniel Jones.
Jones was benched as the starting quarterback earlier this week, but was released by the Giants on Friday.
Barkley, who signed with the Eagles this offseason and is having a great year in a changed environment, was asked about his reaction to Jones' release during Friday's media availability.
“I'm not going to talk about it too much. I've kept in touch with him. Our friendship was always close until I got here. It's awful to see how everything turned out for him over there.” is [with the Giants],” Barclay told reporters..
“I have nothing but great things to say about him. You're not going to find anyone who really has a lot of negative things to say about him. But that's the NFL. Hopefully, wherever he goes next, they You will find a guy who will come and work for you. [Coming from the Giants],I'm fine [with the Eagles]. Hopefully, he can have a similar fresh start and find success. ”
Jones is in the second season of a four-year, $160 million contract, with about $80 million fully guaranteed.
The injury guarantee made it unlikely for the Giants to have him on the field, forcing the team to sign Tim Boyle to the practice squad and demote Jones to the fourth team.
He spent Tuesday playing safety on the scout team.
The Giants were 2-8, tied with the Jaguars and Raiders for the fewest wins in the league, so all involved ultimately felt it was best for Jones to part ways.
“Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if I would release him,” Giants owner John Mara said in a statement Friday.
“We mutually agreed that it was what was best for him and for the team. Daniel is a great representative of our organization and is first class in every way. His response to this situation yesterday was We are all disappointed in the way things have turned out. We hold Daniel in high esteem and are very grateful to him. We wish him the best in his future endeavors. That’s all.”
