Dan Orlovsky didn't think much of Daniel Jones.
Orlovsky, who played 12 seasons in the NFL as a backup quarterback and is now a highly regarded NFL analyst on ESPN, wasn't surprised by Jones' decline with the Giants.
Jones was benched as the team's starting pitcher earlier this week, but after being demoted to the fourth team, he requested and was granted his release on Friday.
“I don't know if there's going to be a huge amount of setbacks,” Orlovsky told Jones, per The Post's Steve Serby. “This is who Daniel has been for most of his career.”
Jones completed 63.3 percent of his passes this year for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions, with a 79.4 passer rating, 265 rushing yards, and two touchdowns on the ground.
With a 2-8 record, the Giants will bypass backup Drew Lock for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers at MetLife Stadium, benching Jones and replacing third-string starter Tommy DeVito. We decided to use it as a starter.

However, Lock remained a backup and the Giants signed Tim Boyle to the practice squad, causing Jones to move down the strength chart before being released.
Jones is in his sixth season with the Giants, posting a 24-44-1 record in starts.
The only surprise to Orlovsky regarding Jones' career was that the Giants selected him sixth overall in the 2019 draft.
“I was one of those people.”what? ! ?“I thought he was an average-sized guy,” Orlovsky said. “The moment he got drafted, I did a live reaction video and I was devastated when I saw it, because I was like, 'He shouldn't have been the No. 6 pick in the draft.' It felt like the Giants were just trying to emulate Eli. [Manning]and Eli's personality.
“And I remember breaking down the next morning. [Duke] In the game against Temple, I said Daniel Jones' biggest problem is that he panics on the football when people crowd around him. In a sense, that was one of the hallmarks of my career. This isn't a personal attack, it's just my belief in him as a player. ”
