A video of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dancing at a Taylor Swift concert sparked outrage over the weekend amid destructive protests in Montreal.
Prime Minister Trudeau, who represents a district in Montreal, attended a Taylor Swift concert in Toronto on Friday night. A viral video posted to X shows the Canadian politician dancing and singing along to the song “You Don't Own Me” before Swift takes the stage.
Toronto is located about 450 miles west of Canada's capital, Otwa, and about 530 miles west of the Montreal area, which is represented by Prime Minister Trudeau.
The same night, anti-NATO demonstrators marched through the streets of Montreal, setting off smoke bombs and holding Palestinian flags. Rioters set cars on fire and clashed with police, the Montreal Gazette reported.

Demonstrators also threw small explosive devices and metal objects at police. At one point, the group burned an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Images of Trudeau dancing during protests in his hometown sparked outrage online. Some social media users compared Trudeau to the infamous Roman emperor Nero, who was known for “messing around while Rome burned.”
Don Stewart, a Member of Parliament (MP) who represents part of Toronto, criticized the prime minister for his post about X.

“Lawless demonstrators wreak havoc over Montreal in a violent protest. The Prime Minister dances,” Stewart wrote. “This is Canada built by a Liberal government.”

“Restore law and order, safe streets and communities to the Canada we once knew and loved,” the MP added.
Prime Minister Trudeau on Saturday condemned the protests, calling them “appalling.”

“What we saw on the streets of Montreal last night was horrifying,” the Canadian leader said. “Anti-Semitism, intimidation and acts of violence must be condemned wherever they are seen.”
“RCMP [Royal Canadian Mounted Police] We are in contact with local police. There must be consequences and the rioters must be held accountable. ”
