Woman, 32, killed after jumping out of Uber on LIE Saturday

A 32-year-old woman was struck and killed after apparently jumping from a moving Uber on the Long Island Expressway in Queens, police said.

Police say the woman fell from the back seat of a gray Volkswagen Passat near the Kissena Boulevard exit in Flushing around 1:30 a.m. and was struck in the left leg by another driver, who was also eastbound.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the 44-year-old Uber driver, who remained at the scene, was not injured.

All four eastbound lanes of the freeway were temporarily closed as the New York City Police Department's Highway Patrol investigated the horrific scene.

It is unclear why the passenger, whose name has not been released pending notification of family members, jumped from the vehicle or whether he was hit by another vehicle.

Police said the driver “unknowingly” hit the unidentified woman, but they are still searching for her on suspicion of hit-and-run.
