California Governor Gavin Newsom's family purchased a multi-million dollar home in Marin County in early November.
Local media outlets including the San Francisco Standard and San Francisco Chronicle reported that the purchase of the 5,600-square-foot Kentfield home took place on Nov. 14.
The luxury home was acquired through a limited liability company owned by Newsom's wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, sources told FOX Business.
The sale price was $9.1 million, according to the property listing.
Kentfield is a community in Marin County north of San Francisco. As of 2020, just over 6,800 people called the city home, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Homes currently for sale in the area range in price from $999,000 to $21 million, according to Realtor.com. As of last month, the median home price in Kentfield was $2.8 million.
The $9.1 million home is approximately 5,600 square feet and spread over three floors.
The listing says the “architecturally stunning” home has six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms.
This home is designed with an open floor plan and boasts a chef's kitchen. According to the photos, many of the windows extend from floor to ceiling, allowing plenty of light.
According to the listing, three rooms have fireplaces: the family room, living room and master bedroom.
The listing reports that there will be “multiple outdoor entertainment areas,” as well as a pool and plenty of large, “lush” lawns. The site spans just under an acre.
The property is also described as offering a high degree of privacy.
“To ensure continuity of education for the children, the family continues to split their time between Sacramento and Marin counties,” Newsom's office said in a statement when asked for comment by FOX Business. .
According to Politico, Newsom's children were scheduled to start school in Marin County in the fall.
Sources told FOX Business that the Newsom family also has a residence in the Sacramento area. Most of the time, Newsom works from the capital, the sources added.
Newsom founded several businesses before his political career. He has served as governor of the Golden State for more than five years and began his second term last year.
California has more cities where homes are worth at least $1 million or more than any other state, according to Zillow, which reported 210 in the Golden State.
The report found that 69 cities in the San Francisco metropolitan area were in such situations.
