Cookbook author and blogger Tegan Gerard's new cookbook, Half Baked Harvest: Quick & Cozy, is packed with recipes that are quick to put together and perfect for feeding a family, she tells FOX News Digital. spoke.
“This is how I cook every day at home and for my family,” Gerard said. “I wanted to create a cookbook that reflected the style of cooking that I love.”
Gerald, author of the popular cooking blog Half Baked Harvest, said one of the reasons he fell in love with cooking was because he was able to cook for the people around him.

“I was so excited to create a cookbook that reflected exactly how I cook,” she said. The recipe is “simple” and “low effort, and I think it's just what everyone needs all year long.”
One of her favorite recipes, which she shared on Fox News Digital, is an appetizer she invented many years ago: pizza pretzels.

“I love pizza pretzels,” she said. “It sounds really interesting, but it's always popular because it's so delicious and easy to make.”
The dish starts with “something like a big, hard pretzel” and is topped with cheese, “pizza seasoning” and pepperoni before baking.
“It's a very interesting appetizer, but it's very tasty.”

Gerald, who is based in Colorado, told Fox News Digital that his brother Clayton came up with the idea for pizza pretzels when he was hungry before dinner.

“I made Chex Mix earlier in the day,” she said – so she had pretzels on hand. She thought he should enjoy it and thought it should be topped with cheese and pepperoni.
“Everyone ate it up right away,” she said.

12 slices (about 4 ounces) of provolone cheese
12 pepperoni sandwiches (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place parchment paper on a baking sheet.
2. In a small bowl, combine the basil, Parmesan, asiago, garlic, thyme, oregano, fennel seeds, and red pepper flakes. Stir well.

3. Toss pretzels with melted butter and arrange in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle about 2/3 of the herb-cheese mixture on top.
4. Bake until cheese begins to melt and garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven, carefully place a slice of provolone on top of each pretzel, and tear apart the slices. If using, place pepperoni slices on top.

5. Bake for 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the pepperoni is beginning to crisp. Remove and sprinkle with remaining herb-cheese mixture. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
