Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) said Sunday on CNN's “State of the Union” that Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) pushing a resolution banning transgender bathrooms was “disgusting and wrong.” “
Host Dana Bash asked, “I would like to ask you a question about what's going on in the Capitol building across the street, where you used to serve as a member of Congress.'' House Speaker Mike Johnson said this week, “Toilets “All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House of Representatives office buildings, including changing rooms and locker rooms, are reserved for individuals of that biological sex.” That's because, of course, the first transgender Congresswoman, Sarah McBride, was just elected. Republican Rep. Nancy Mace is leading a movement to prevent women from using the restroom. What is your reaction to this? And broadly speaking, how should Democrats approach this issue of transgender rights? ”
Duckworth said: “Well, I think we need to make sure that people are people. And frankly, I think there's a lot of other things to worry about. You know, the budget deficit. Around the world. There's a crisis going on. There's a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and Russia is moving towards it. And that's an illegal invasion of Ukraine. There are problems in this country. And yet she's worried that one of her members is using the toilet. First, her position is disgusting. I think that's wrong, but I also think there are more things to worry about than where someone goes to pee.”
