‘This war is about money’: Sen. Lindsey Graham says Ukraine can pay back United States through rare minerals

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Ukraine is Europe's richest country when it comes to minerals and that President Donald Trump would “make a deal” to get the money back to the United States.

The South Carolina senator spoke with Fox News' Sean Hannity last week and publicly stated that the Russia-Ukraine war was primarily about controlling valuable mineral deposits, which led to Russia's decision to invade eastern Ukraine. He argued that this was the main reason.

On his show, Hannity asked President Biden why he authorized the use of ballistic missiles by Ukraine in the final stages of his administration.

“Why would he give them more money, and why would he do this knowing that Donald Trump is going to take a very different approach when he takes office in two months? ” Hannity asked.

Graham prefaced his response by saying that if Ukraine had been allowed to use ballistic missiles earlier in the war, when the fighting lasted about 1,000 days, Ukraine would have been in a much better place by late 2024. did.

“Donald Trump is going to make a deal to get our money back.”

Graham: “This war is about money.'' revealed. “People don't talk about this much, but you know that the country with the richest amount of rare earth minerals in all of Europe is Ukraine. Rare earth minerals are minerals worth between $2 trillion and $7 trillion, and 21 very relevant to the century,” the senator added.

Graham argued that Ukraine is willing to do business with the United States, not Russia, and that it is therefore in the best interest of the American people to ensure that Russia “does not assume that position.”

“It's really the breadbasket of the developing world. 50% of the food that goes to Africa comes from Ukraine. We make money, [an] “Economic relations with Ukraine would be very beneficial to us with peace,” Graham added, “so Donald Trump could take our money back and enrich himself with rare earth minerals.” “This is a good deal for Ukraine and us, and he will bring peace.”

Mr. Hannity also asked whether Ukraine could repay the United States for the “hundreds of billions” it had already invested in the war, but Mr. Graham clarified that “that's just a drop in the bucket,” adding that Ukraine has the most mineral resources. He reiterated that Japan is a country rich in In Europe.

“That's why Russia is there now,” Graham concluded.

But Graham's numbers were different when he was interviewed on CBS News' “Face the Nation” about 10 days ago.

In the meantime exteriorGraham said Ukraine has about $10 trillion to $12 trillion worth of “critical minerals” sitting idle, nearly double his later estimate.

The senator reiterated that Ukraine needs to repay the United States.

”[Trump] We created a financing system. … I don't want to give that money or assets to President Putin to share with China,” Graham told host Margaret Brennan.

The 69-year-old described the end of the Russia-Ukraine war as a “huge event” and called on the US to help Ukraine “win” the war and “find a solution.”

He reiterated that Ukrainians are “sitting on a gold mine” that will not be allowed to go to Russia or China.
