Illegal Alien Accused of Raping Woman on Jogging Trail

An undocumented immigrant with a lengthy criminal history has been accused of raping a woman on a jogging trail in the town of Herndon, Virginia, just four days after being released from the Fairfax County Jail.

Dennis Humberto Navarrette Romero, 31, is an illegal immigrant from Honduras. arrested He was arrested by Herndon police last week and charged with raping a woman in October on the Washington and Old Dominion Trail where he exposed himself to another woman.

At the time of the rape, Romero had only been released from the Fairfax County Jail for four days, having been sentenced to 50 days in prison on indecent assault charges.

At that time, Romero approached Jennifer Pugh on the street and tried to grab her dog. Pugh said Romero spoke only Spanish and began trying to follow her before he showed up to her.

After serving 25 days in prison for the case, Romero was released back into society without being turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents for deportation.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) said his state is not a sanctuary jurisdiction and called on Fairfax County officials to stop protecting illegal aliens who have committed crimes.

“My heart hurts for this victim and I am outraged that local Fairfax County authorities recklessly released a violent illegal immigrant who should have been prosecuted and deported,” Youngkin said. said. I wrote:

This is a dereliction of the most basic duty: to keep people safe. It is unacceptable to prioritize violent illegal immigrants over the safety of Fairfax residents. Virginia is not a sanctuary state. With President Trump in office, the political posturing will end and local governments will work with ICE to protect Virginians.

Prior to his indecent assault conviction, Romero had run-ins with Herndon police in connection with child sexual abuse. According to to washington post:

Herndon police first showed documented interest in him in 2018, according to a report released in response to a public records request.

The same year, the agency received a report alleging that the suspect had fondled a 14-year-old child. According to a police report, Fairfax County sex crimes detectives investigated and were told that Navarrette-Romero had sex with a 13-year-old and a 10-year-old a year ago. Parents of these children said the incidents were not reported because the families “didn't want to cause trouble.” Police wrote that ultimately attempts to speak with those involved were met with resistance. They concluded their investigation and Navarrette-Romero was not charged.

In June 2022, Romero choked a Herndon Police Department officer who was responding to a report of molestation. He was initially charged with a felony assault on a law enforcement officer, but the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor simple assault.

Police say Romero is homeless and has mental illness and substance abuse issues. He works in the construction industry in Fairfax County and has lived in the area for 11 years.

In one case, Herndon police found Romero face down in a park and asked him to be deported from the United States to return home.

Romero is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bail.
