Steve Cohen believes there is hope that members of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf can find a way to reunite despite the ongoing civil war in the sport.
The Mets owner expressed his optimism at a media event for the New York Golf Club, a team that will compete in the TGL Indoor Golf League, which launches in January.
“There's a lot of moving parts, but I think we'll get there,” Cohen told reporters. According to Bloomberg.
“The goal is to reunite all the players, but right now they are apart,” he later said of the situation. “Playing one tournament, one venue, whatever it is, is exciting.”
The rift between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is creating a wedge in the sport of golf, but some cautious optimism creeps in as the Saudi-backed LIV and PGA Tour look to make a merger happen I'm here.
The two groups jointly announced their merger plans in June 2023, shocking sports fans and golfers.
Negotiations have not gone very smoothly, but things are believed to be moving in the right direction after PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and PIF President Yasir Al-Rimayan played golf together last month.
Exhibition golf matches between PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler and LIV Golf stars Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are also scheduled for next month.
TGL is a team golf league founded by Tiger Woods, McIlroy and former Golf Channel president Mike McCarley under their media venture TMRW Sports.
They are affiliated with the PGA Tour and the league will feature six teams playing inside the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Cohen invested in the New York team along with Eli Manning, Derek Jeter, Jimmy Fallon and CC Sabathia.
