London Terror Police Arrest Six Suspected of Links to Banned PKK

LONDON (AP) – British counterterrorism officers arrested six people Wednesday as part of an investigation into activities linked to the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party, known as the PKK, police said.

The Metropolitan Police announced that four men and two women arrested in London have been detained under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The PKK, a separatist movement seeking independence for the Kurdish state in southeastern Turkey, is on Britain's list of suspected extremist groups banned.

“This operation was carried out after significant investigations and operations against activities believed to be related to the terrorist organization PKK,” the acting commander said. Helen Flanagan said. “These are arrests targeting people suspected of being involved in terrorist activities associated with this group.”

Police were searching a Kurdish community center in Haringey, north London, and seven other locations in the city.

Police said they do not believe there is a threat to the public.
