$18M in fake Gibson guitars seized in California

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced Tuesday that $18 million worth of fake Gibson guitars have been seized in California. agency called “The largest seizure of counterfeit instruments in history”

CBP said in a press release that its office working with Gibson representatives and local authorities seized 3,000 counterfeit Gibson guitars. If these counterfeits were passed off as genuine, their value would be $18,742,820, the report said.

CBP said the fake guitars entered the United States in sea containers from Asia. Gibson has confirmed that the guitars are counterfeit. Gibson manufactures its guitars exclusively in the United States.

CBP said shoppers should be wary of stores offering products well below market price. He suggested that such products may not be genuine.
