Rams’ Demarcus Robinson will play vs. Saints less than 1 week after DUI arrest

The Los Angeles Rams won't double down on DeMarcus Robinson's punishment.

Wide receiver Robinson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Monday, hours after his team's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, after California police say he was driving over 100 miles per hour. .

California Highway Patrol troopers say around 5:10 a.m., Robinson, 30, was driving a white Dodge sedan on Route 101 “northbound at speeds in excess of 100 mph,” according to a news release. He reportedly saw him running.

During the traffic stop, law enforcement officers “observed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment.” The veteran wideout was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was “named and released to responsible parties.”

Despite the incident, head coach Sean McVay announced Wednesday that Robinson will play against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

“I think he made the wrong decision. I don't think it makes him a bad person,” McVay told reporters Wednesday. “And this is something he said that I believe our players will learn from and hopefully no one will ever do something like this again.

“I believe that DeMarcus has a good heart and could never have any malicious intent, and clearly there were decisions that were made that were not consistent with what we were trying to achieve. I know you regret it.”

Robinson had two receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Robinson is in his second season with the Rams. He started all 11 games this season and had 26 receptions for 384 yards and a team-leading six touchdown catches.

Robinson, a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, played most of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the Super Bowl in February 2020.
