Alexander Vindman ‘Committed Treason,’ Will ‘Pay the Appropriate Penalty’

Elon Musk said retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman had “committed treason against the United States” by being “on the payroll of a Ukrainian oligarch” and said he would “pay an appropriate fine.” Musk's comments came in response to Vindman's accusation that he colluded with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Mr. Vindman is in the pay of Ukrainian oligarchs and has committed treason against the United States, for which he will pay a corresponding fine,” Musk said in an X post on Wednesday.

Mr. Musk was reacting to an issue. post Another X account shared a video of Mr. Vindman, accusing the Tesla CEO of having ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and claiming that Mr. Musk supported President-elect Donald Trump in the 2024 election because of Putin. He claimed he only did so because the president told him to.

“We are under attack,” Vindman said in the video. “Russia uses a variety of methods, whether it's corruption networks. In this case, it's the influencers like Donald Trump and Elon Musk who are actually sowing discord. is.”

“This case is particularly troubling because Elon Musk has access to state secrets. He has top secret security clearance, some of which may have been infiltrated.” Vindman continued.

The former European affairs chief went on to claim that “Putin has played both Trump and Elon very effectively, using the world's richest man to do his bidding.” .

“In some cases, it may be pushing him to support Donald Trump. That's not speculation. We see how far Elon is willing to go,” Vindman asserted.

Vindman also accused Musk of using X as a “disinformation platform,” adding, “This is not like some far-off threat. This is going to affect our elections, and it's going to affect our elections. It's a national security threat.”

This is not the first time Mr. Vindman has publicly attacked Mr. Musk.

In August, following the arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, Vindman warned Musk that he should be nervous about his next role.

“Mr. Durov holds French nationality and has been arrested for violating French law, which has far-reaching implications for other social media, including Twitter,” Vindman wrote at the time.

“There is a growing intolerance of platforming disinformation, malign influence, and a desire for accountability,” he added. “Mask must be nervous.”

Notably, Vindman testified against then-President Trump at the House impeachment hearings in November 2019, and the 45th president was accused of sending military troops to Ukraine in return for smearing then-presidential candidate Joe Biden. He claimed that aid had been withheld.

In September, Mr. Vindman's wife, Rachel Vindman, mocked the second assassination attempt on Mr. Trump's life.
