President Biden reiterated U.S. support for Ukraine in dealing with Russia's recent “horrific” attacks.
“Overnight, Russia carried out horrific air attacks on Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities say Russia launched nearly 200 missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure, and cut power to Ukrainian civilians.” It is reported that access was taken away. Biden said in a statement:.
Mr. Biden said the recent attacks, which occurred as the United States prepared for the Thanksgiving holiday, were outrageous and served as another reminder of the importance of supporting Ukraine.
Biden said his administration has been working “for months” to help build resilience in the energy sector and the Department of Defense as Ukraine seeks to build “critical capabilities.”
“Russia continues to underestimate the courage, resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people. The United States joins more than 50 countries in supporting Ukraine and its fight for freedom,” Biden said.
The statement and the attack came amid major challenges looming in the regional war. This follows Biden's decision to authorize Ukraine to use long-range missiles inside Russia.
The fighting will become even more difficult as the region enters a long, dark and cold winter season.
As President-elect Donald Trump prepares for his second term in office, there are concerns about how he will deal with the ongoing conflict. President Trump has said in the past that he would end the Russia-Ukraine war in one day.
Biden has emphasized support for Ukraine in the Americas in recent months, especially as he prepares to leave office.
