On Tuesday's broadcast of NewsNation's “The Hill,” Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, responded to the following statement: report President-elect Donald Trump has appointed a funder to the Pentagon's top post, saying the Pentagon needs a fiscal commitment and a treasurer could help solve those problems. He said he is considering it.
“I think it definitely has the potential to be a positive thing,'' Smith said. [W]We are pushing the Department of Defense to get to the point where we can do a full audit, and we are making progress. The way the Pentagon was set up was a nightmare. So, yeah, we're going to put a finance person there so we can get a clean audit and also do a better job on procurement and acquisitions. This is the opinion of Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, and he and I work very closely together. We are working diligently to improve the Department of Defense's ability to rapidly acquire new technology, especially the software it needs to be in the best possible position to protect this nation. I'm here. Technology has become extremely important in a variety of fields, including drones and counter-drone countermeasures. Yes, if only our financial managers could help us spend our money more wisely. I think there is – there is a strong positive side to it.”
