Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, had the usual sense of something when his company adopted Vanguard's S&P 500 ETF (VOO) a few years ago.
Since then, exchange-traded funds have gradually become a favorite of retail investors, with net cash flow exceeding $100 billion for the first time this year.
“Vanguard's ownership structure is unique in the industry. We are owned by the funds, and the funds are owned by the fund's shareholders. Therefore, we have no divided loyalties. We invest in Our sole focus is on helping families achieve their goals,” a Vanguard spokesperson told FOX Business.

The S&P 500 index has risen 27% this year, topping the 6,000 level for the first time.
Long-term investors may be more likely to stick with VOO than its rival SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY), which is also owned by Mr. Buffett, according to 13F filings.

“Vanguard has such a reputation and, as you know, there's a very dedicated investor base that buys Vanguard funds. And they're typically long-term oriented. They buy Vanguard funds every day, every week. , they're pouring money into it.' So they're benefiting from that,'' Sumit Roy, senior ETF analyst at ETF.com, told FOX Business.
Founded by legendary investor Jack Bogle, the company is best known for creating index funds.

VOO, which appeared in 2010, has assets of $588 billion and an expense ratio of 0.03%. SPY has a high expense ratio of 0.0945% and has over $688 billion in assets, making it attractive to nimble investors.
Why are ESG ETFS shrinking?
“The investor base is much more diverse. There are some long-term investors, but there are also a lot of traders, there are hedge funds, there are people who come in and out trying to time the market. So the flow, the pattern, the flow is It's a little different than SPY. Sometimes we see big outflows,” Roy said.
SPY was founded in 1993 and was the first ETF to trade on a national stock exchange.
