‘Cheers’ star Ted Danson and his wife Mary Steenburgen wake up at 4:30 am for ‘date early bird specials’

Date night for “Cheers” star Ted Danson and his wife Mary Steenburgen looks a little different in their 70s.

During an interview with peopleDanson explained that the couple, who will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary next year, prefer spending time together early in the morning rather than having a romantic evening date.

“At my age, dating is like an early bird date,” Danson, 76, told the magazine.

He continued, “The most fun is early in the morning, 4:30 a.m., in bed drinking coffee, playing Wordle, Connections, Spelling Bee, talking, laughing, and sharing.” spoke.

Despite both of their busy schedules, Danson said the distance didn't stop her from spending a fun morning with Steenburgen, 71.

“We wake up in time to play games or get coffee on the phone, even if she works in a different time zone,” he said.

Danson told the outlet that part of the reason he cherishes these moments with his wife is because they didn't meet until later in life. Steenburgen and Danson were in their 40s when they met and both had been married.

Steenburgen shares a son and daughter with the actor Malcolm McDowellShe was married from 1980 to 1990.

Danson was first married to Randy Danson in 1970 and they separated in 1975. Danson married his second wife, Casey Coates, in 1977, but they divorced in 1973. They have two daughters, Alexis and Kate.

“I decided about a year ago that I wanted to become a more emotionally mature and honest person,” Danson recalled before meeting Steenburgen. “I worked hard at it, otherwise I don't think Mary Steenburgen would have even seen me.”

Danson was so focused on becoming the best version of himself in his later years that he told People that he's convinced his relationship with the “Elf” actress wouldn't have worked out if they had met sooner.

“I can assure you the answer is no. I only speak for myself,” Danson said. “I wasn't completely in love with Mary until just before I met her…I thank God I didn't meet her sooner.”

Steenburgen and Danson married in 1995 after first meeting on the set of the 1993 film Pontiac Moon.

In 2019, the actor said: closer weekly He is still madly in love with his wife.

“We literally wake up every day and celebrate,” the star told the outlet. “If we didn't do that, we'd be stupid because we're so lucky. We have wonderful children and grandchildren, and we have each other. We're madly in love.”

Danson credits his upbringing for forming such a blissful relationship with the actress.

“My parents have been very good to me, and I consider myself a family man,” Danson said at the time, referring to her parents' nearly 40-year marriage.

Danson also revealed that he and Steenburgen were ready to embark on a new chapter in their lives when they first met.

“We met when I was 45 and she was 40,” he explained. “We were living a little bit. We were both looking at the demons inside of us, and we were lucky to meet at that time.”
